As of now my collection of servers consists of 7 machines that are in a ProxMox cluster. All servers are connected via a 10Gbit fiber connection to an 8-port aggregation switch (Unifi Aggregation) which then has a fiber uplink to my home router (Unifi UDM Pro).
For naming of a lot of my servers, I decided a long time ago to go with Roman Mythology, simply because I happened to read up on it and just liked it. All but my first server are named from Roman Mythology.. for funsies.
The servers of my ProxMox cluster consist of:
Delphis
Delphinus delphis, commonly known as the short-beaked common dolphin, belongs to the genus Delphinus in the family Delphinidae.
For the longest time I have had a server called ‘Delphis’. It’s because I really like dolphins and the latin name for a common dolphin is ‘Delphinus Delphis’. It’s a name I learned when I was younger and just liked it.
Currently, Delphis is a SuperMicro SuperServer 6028U-TR4+, a 2U server with NVMe drives internally for OS and RAID 6 with spinning disks for general media and large file storage. 128GB DDR4 ECC RAM, 2 x Xeon E5-2689 v4 at 3.1Ghz.
This computer is the 7th computer I’ve owned to carry the name Delphis since around 2000.
Genii
Genii were often viewed as protective spirits, as one would propitiate them for protection.
Genii is a SuperMicro SuperServer 1027GR-TRF, a 1U server with 2 small SSDs for OS. 128GB DDR3 ECC RAM, 2 x Xeon E5-2680 @ 2.8Ghz.
Genii is one of the 5 servers that forms the Ceph block level cluster data storage, having a single 3.2TB U.2 Enterprise level SSD connected to one of the PCIe slots inside.
This computer is the 4th computer I’ve owned to carry the name Genii, since around 2004.
Apollo
Apollo was the god of music, healing, light, prophecy, and archery. He was one of the most important and influential gods in both Greek and Roman mythology
Apollo is a SuperMicro SuperServer 1027GR-TRF, a 1U server with 2 small SSDs for OS. 128GB DDR3 ECC RAM, 2 x Xeon E5-2680 @ 2.8Ghz.
Apollo is one of the 5 servers that forms the Ceph block level cluster data storage, having a single 3.2TB U.2 Enterprise level SSD connected to one of the PCIe slots inside.
Pomona
Pomona was the goddess of fruit, orchards, gardens, and abundance. She was a wood nymph, or hamadryad, who tended to fruit trees
Pomona is a SuperMicro SuperServer 1027GR-TRF, a 1U server with 2 small SSDs for OS. 128GB DDR3 ECC RAM, 2 x Xeon E5-2680 @ 2.8Ghz. It has an NVidia Tesla P4 for virtual GPU support for virtual machines.
Pomona is one of the 5 servers that forms the Ceph block level cluster data storage, having a single 3.2TB U.2 Enterprise level SSD connected to one of the PCIe slots inside.
Feronia
Feronia was a goddess associated with wildlife, fertility, health, and abundance
Feronia is a SuperMicro SuperServer 1027GR-TRF, a 1U server with 2 small SSDs for OS. 128GB DDR3 ECC RAM, 2 x Xeon E5-2680 @ 2.8Ghz.
Feronia is one of the 5 servers that forms the Ceph block level cluster data storage, having a single 3.2TB U.2 Enterprise level SSD connected to one of the PCIe slots inside.
Lares
In Roman mythology, the Lares were guardian deities that protected homes, communities, and institutions
Lares is a SuperMicro SuperServer 1027GR-TRF, a 1U server with 2 small SSDs for OS.
Opis
Ops or Opis (Latin: “Plenty”) was a fertility deity and earth goddess of Sabine origin.
Opis is a SuperMicro SuperServer 6037R-E1R16N, a 3U server with 2 SSDs for OS and a RAID 6 array with spinning disks for backups. 128GB DDR3 ECC RAM, 2 x Xeon E5-2643 v2 @ 3.5Ghz.
